THE STORY OF OPEN LOCKSPORT!
Open Locksport was started by Schuyler Towne when he realized there wasn't a unified pick set on the market that could take a new picker from beginner to expert in a single collection. Drawing from his experience and the beautiful tools that artisan pick makers had been crafting for him for years, Schuyler designed a set of 20 tools. Some of his picks follow tradition, but many have never been available in a commercial pickset before now.
The initial funding for Open Locksport was found via a wonderful community of individuals on Kickstarter.com. The plan was to raise $6000 just so the picks could see the light of day, but at the end of 10 weeks the campaigned brought in $87,000. Now, as those tools are finally being cut, we're making the 2nd half of the production run available to the public. While the picks may be licensed in the future, this limited edition run of the tools is the only one that Schuyler will be involved in producing.
The OPEN! in Open Locksport comes from the locksport tradition of shouting "OPEN!" when you pick a lock in competition. These traditions drive every part of the production of these picks. From the hand made roll-up cases to the hand-bent tension wrenches, these tools have been a labor of devotion to the craft and community of Locksport.
